Why goals should not only be SMART but SMARTER

Goals should be SMART, everybody knows this formula. Here´s a better one.

Your goals should be emotional and relevant to you

S specific

M measurable

A achievable

R reasonable

T time bound

Sometimes you find a bunch of variants of this formula:

S significant, stretchable, simple

M meaningful, motivating, manageable

A attractive, attainable, activating, assignable, appropriate, accepted, agreed, actionable, ambitious, aligned, aspirational, attainable, as if now (expressed in present time)

R relevant, realistic, resourced, resonant

T tangible, trackable, …

I suggest a SMARTER formula:

S specific (like in classical definition)

M measurable (like in classical definition)

A adding value (!)

R relevant (serving a higher purpose)

T tracked (continuously)

E exiting (for me and my boss)

R reviewed (continuously)
